The Crustacean to Lead the Nation
October 18, 2008
My campaign advisers unanimously agree.
Nancy Hanauer’s word styling makes her the winner of our Find-a-Slogan campaign. We choose:
“The Crustacean to Lead the Nation”
Intrigued, the team did a little digging and learned that, like most Americans, Nancy makes a solid contribution to society at Hop to Signaroo.
She teaches American Sign Language (ASL) to hearing parents for their hearing babies.
Boy, Michelle and I wish we knew about Nancy when I was a community organizer back when the girls were born. It would have reduced little Melia Ann’s frustration when she couldn’t express herself and we couldn’t understand her. (Might have gotten a little more sleep too!)
Hop to Signaroo has educated more than 3,000 parents since opening its doors in 2000. From her Web site we learned that:
– Babies gain control of their hands approximately a year before they have complete control of their vocal chords;
– Signing promotes faster language development, stimulates intellectual growth and brain development, enhances motor skills, and strengthens the parent-child bond;and,
– Children who signed as babies often have higher IQs, a more sophisticated understanding of language, better reading and spelling skills, and more interest in books because of an early jump on language.
Nancy, Michelle and I congratulate you and your solid contributions to our great landscape. You are doing God’s work.
You can reach Nancy at nancy@hoptosignaroo.com or at 206.789.SIGN.

Hey Barack Lobster,
Thanks for the shout-out. Signing with your girls when they were babies would have been a little tricky with your crazy claws, but we could have made it work! ;0) Signing with hearing babies truly does reduce everyone’s frustration…do check out my site for classes and products!
